CCC receives 2008 Access Fund Grant, 1% For the Planet and Triple Crown Donation! PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 26 June 2008
In Spring 2008, the CCC received an Access Fund Grant for $6,000 towards the Laurel Knob Project.  The Access Fund has been behind the landmark purchase of Laurel Knob since the start, both in financial and moral support.  The CCC wants to publicly thank the Access Fund for this recent award.  Folks should join the Access Fund with confidence that they are bringing it home to the local level.

Also, the 1% For the Planet Program made a $1500 payout on behalf of Travel Country Outfitters.  This unique program allows Patagonia retailers to designate awardees who are actively working to preserve, conserve and protect natural resources.

Just this week, Chad Wykle and Jim Horton, the Organizer Extraordinaires of the Triple Crooooowwwn, stepped up with a $1,000 donation from the SCC and the Triple Crown to kick-off the “Playing for the Payoff” event.  The Triple Crown is recognized as one of the leading grass-roots events in the US for raising money that promotes climbing access.  We are psyched that these NC gents do what they do and bring it back to all of us.  Many thanks!!

To date, the CCC owes roughly $29,000 on the Laurel Knob bridge loans. (The ‘roughly’ is due to the changing timeframe of the interest.) The CCC greatly appreciates the generosity of both the Access Fund and the 1% For the Planet Program who are giving back.  These monies will lower the overall bridge loan balance to around $20,500.

Big Props to

There is still a lot of work to be done to dissolve these loans.  Watch for more info on the CCC sponsored event “Playing for the Payoff” on July 19th, the upcoming 2009 CCC Calendar and other local fund raisers.  Check the Events and Meetings forum often!

Moores Wall update PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 17 June 2008
From Park Superintendent Erik Nygard:

The Hanging Rock State Park closure at the north end of Moore's Wall will be in effect through July 11, 2008.  The peregrine falcons have had a successful nest and a fledgling has been spotted.  It will require the closure be kept in place until July 11th for the fledgling to get sufficient use of its wings to fend for itself.  This is a particularly important time to follow the closure of Moore's Wall.  Please honor the falcons as they fly along the wall chasing vultures and other birds on the drafts formed along the rock cliffs.  Moore's Wall is thought to be the most easterly, natural nesting site in N.C. for peregrine falcons.

Also of note.  The vault toilet at the Moore's Wall Climbing Access Parking Area is open for use.  However, changes need to be made to the door locking mechanism to prevent it from locking when individuals exit the building without physically manipulating the handle. Please pass the word around to make sure the door handle is unlocked before closing the door! Thanks for your patience.  In the meantime, call 336-593-8480 if the door is locked while the building is not occupied.

Thanks,

Erik Nygard
