This past weekend, the 6th annual Triple Crown Bouldering Comp came to North Carolina for the annual Hound Ears leg. Friday evening the CCC held the annual fall meeting at the Foscoe- Grandfather Community Center generously provided by the Triple Crown Bouldering Competition. A set of minutes will be posted soon to help detail what transpired during the meeting. We had a much-improved attendance to this years CCC meeting and we wanted to thank everyone for joining us! Some of the high points were a discussion about our ongoing efforts to plan for the future of climbing at Chimney Rock State Park and the new acquisition of Grandfather Mountain by North Carolina State Parks. Jim Horton and Chad Wykle, the Triple Crown Organizers presented a check to Mike Dean to help pay this year’s lease to the Asheboro Boulders. The audience helped to elect 3 new board members. Anthony Love (Vice- President/President Pro-Tempore) was elected for his first term as the President. Zachary Lesch-Huie, of Boone, was elected Vice President, and Matt Hauser, of Winston-Salem, was elected to the position of Northern Piedmont Representative. Following the meeting we received a large contribution for which we are very thankful. The meeting was adjourned and the Triple Crown kickoff festivities resumed with a showing of Summer Ascents the newest film from LVM Rock . The CCC wanted to thank the volunteers who helped a very nervous president get the meeting room set up, we could not have pulled it off without you guys (Jon Lane, Jason Chamberlain, Lisa, Phil Hoffman, Heath Bailey, Tim Fisher, Ben Johnson).
Saturday morning, all competitors were greeted with blue bird skies and a slight chill to the morning air. The competition was a spectacular success with many a problem defeated and many a tip sliced. Mountain Alliance , River and Earth Adventures and Edge of the World Sports provided transportation for the smoothest ride up to the Ears yet! The Watauga Rescue Squad was generous enough to divert some of their personnel from ASU-s Homecoming Game to help support us during the competition. The post comp festivities were a blast with dinner catered by Quiznos of Boone and free beer all night long. At a moments notice, Kurt Smith produced a huge pile of swag for an incredibly successful raffle which netted the CCC $1250.00. Shortly after during the awards ceremony, Jim and Chad called Anthony onto the stage to present a check for $3750.00 for the CCC’s ongoing efforts to pay off Laurel Knob. The CCC has been overwhelmed by the generosity of the climbing community, the outdoor industry and the Triple Crown! This year the Triple Crown has raised and donated $7000.00 to the CCC! Land Acquisition is only possible with everyone’s support and the success of this weekend is another shining example that the CCC has YOUR support! We thank you for that! |
