Brad Caldwell - SC Rep
I was born, raised and am still local to the little town of Pickens in the Upstate of South Carolina. I quickly became obsessed with rock climbing, bouldering, mountain biking and kayaking, especially in Pisgah and the beautifully rugged lands that would eventually become the Jocassee Gorges in northwest South Carolina. After graduating with my B.S. in Biological Sciences and Secondary Education from Clemson, and while doing research on bears in the newly formed Jocassee Gorges for my M.S in Zoology during grad school at Clemson, I realized the amazing treasure that was in my backyard…not only the encyclopedic ecological diversity and natural wonders, but also the extensive recreation opportunities it provided! Since then, I have focused much of my time and attention towards exploring and finding more bouldering, mountain biking and kayaking adventures in the Jocassee Gorges, especially since moving into the Gorges in 2005. In the meantime, I have bouldered in 7 different countries and 10 different US states and still find the blocks at Rumbling Bald, the North Side of Looking Glass and in the Jocassee Gorges to be some of the best granite I’ve touched!!! I am married to an amazing woman, have an incredible little daughter, and lucky to have both of them to support me in my adventures! After helping Stephen Scoff, the previous CCC SC rep, out with SC climbing and bouldering for a few years, I’m excited to now work directly with the CCC to help advocate for and expand climbing in South Carolina!
