Pace Cliffs
Land Manager: Green River Gamelands
Area rep: Shannon Millsaps smillsaps@carolinaclimbers.org
Access Information: CCC worked out an MOU with the Green River Gamelands in 2024-2025 to begin serving this great crag. Following Hurricane Helene and the fires of 2025, CCC conducted trail work to improve the sustainability of the climber access trail, located off of the Turkey Gut Trail.
What to expect: Excellent climbing 1-2 pitches. Some sport but mostly mixed climbs. There are a few 5.6-5.9 climbs but the majority of the 75+ climbs here are in the 5.10-11 range. There are some boulders around as well.
Directions: Carpool! Parking is limited and this area is used heavily by other user groups, such as hunters, bikers, and hikers. Please park responsibly. Park at 35.29059, -82.31852. If parking is full, there is more parking a few hundred yards passed this parking spot. Walk the unmarked road south for a 1/2 mile to the Turkey Gut Trailhead. Note: If the seasonal gate is unlocked you can park at the Turkey Gut Trailhead, saving that 1/2 mile road walk. Follow the Turkey Gut Trail for a few hundred yards, then look for a small unmarked climber access trail to your left. Follow the unmarked trail for roughly 1/2 mile to the cliff base.
Important Considerations: The Gamelands, and this area in particular is highly used by hunters. Climbers respecting other user-groups, such as hunters, is critical for our future access here. During hunting season wear hunter-orange. Please keep your pets on a leash or do not bring them. The rock here can be soft and seems to be affected by rain, similar to desert sand stone. Consider not climbing here a day after the rain. Please practice Leave No Trace ethics while at Pace Cliffs. Carpool and park responsibly. Parking is limited.
Route Information: We are not certain about how the land owners feel about sharing route information online, which is why we do not have any route information posted here.
