The Buffalo Creek Upper Boulders Trail: A Hidden Gem of Rutherford County
In June 2023, the CCC received a generous grant of $22,288 from the Rutherford County Tourism Development Authority (TDA) for the development and maintenance of the Buffalo Creek Upper Boulders Trail, located in the Town of Lake Lure. Our organization has also received major support for Buffalo Creek from RHI Legacy Foundation and REI Asheville, with an estimated total donation for this project totaling over $50,000!
Access has arrived at Raven Rock and Hickory Creek Boulders!
In the Spring of 2023, the CCC worked with the land owners of Raven Rock and Hickory Creek Boulders to form a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) outlining stewardship tasks and access for the public. We are grateful to the landowners for their generous allowance of climbing on their property for registered individuals. In turn, climbers have stepped up and begun to take care of their land.
Updated Web Site
We've made some changes! New hosting provider (faster, more responsive pages), latest and greatest versions of the web site content management system and the membership management system.
New look and feel, easy access to climbing area waivers on every page, better looking e-mail newsletters, easier search for membership status and rebolting work, month and list view for the events calendar, site search, and more! The site is also more mobile friendly and should work well across all devices.
2 CCC Board Positions Open!
The Carolina Climbers Coalition is currently seeking a new Northern Mountains Representative as well as a Southern Piedmont Representative to join our volunteer Board of Directors.
Pisgah Nantahala Forest Plan
Almost ⅓ of America’s climbing is on National Forest lands. In North Carolina, on Pisgah & Nantahala National Forest alone, there are thousands of boulder problems and climbing routes on many dozens of discrete crags and boulderfields. Popular, historic, and beloved climbing areas like Linville Gorge, Looking Glass Rock, Whitesides, Cedar Rock and others are all found on the more than 1 million acres of Pisgah & Nantahala National Forest. In the Carolinas and across the country, National Forests are a significant and precious climbing resource.
Now Recruiting Gym Ambassadors
The Carolina Climbers Coalition is thrilled to announce the launch of our gym ambassadors program. CCC gym ambassadors are passionate spokespeople who will share the mission of the CCC with their gym to crag community.
Gym ambassadors must have a partnering home gym at which they are a member.
Peregrine Closure Moved at Laurel Knob
The peregrine eyrie (nesting location) has moved at Laurel Knob. It is no longer on Fathom and it is now in the Dillard Canyon. Two actions are effective immediately:
All routes in the Dillard Canyon are closed until Aug 15.
All routes right of Dillard Canyon are now open year-round.
Thank you for respecting peregrine falcon closures and our efforts to protect this great species.
